NYSERDA Application Approved

Feb 16, 2006
The Aurora Ice Association applied for funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) last year, and following a scoping meeting in December, NYSERDA has approved our request for participation in the "New York Energy Smart" New Construction Program.

NYSERDA is providing incentives for Technical Assistance (TA) services through the engineering firm of Erdman Anthony Associates, Inc. to AIA and our design team to assess opportunities to incorporate Energy Efficiency Measures (EEM's) and design features that limit energy usage in the new rink building.

NYSERDA pays the first $5,000 of the cost of TA services, and half of the remaining costs. The total TA cost is not to exceed $9,670. The TA will calculate the energy savings and specify the incentives applicable. The incentive award by NYSERDA "will be capped at 50% of the estimated incremental cost increase for the EEMs up to a maximum of $150,000", upon the project's completion.

The EEM's will include such items as high-efficiency chillers for the ice, infrared temperature sensors for the ice, desiccant dehumidification of the rink air, extra insulation, and energy efficient building lighting.

This engineering work not will begin until we receive project approval from the Village.
