Sabres.com article on the classic rink.
| The Vision |
On January 1, 2008, history was made in Buffalo, NY. Ralph Wilson Stadium hosted the first ever outdoor NHL game in the United States. The NHL “Winter Classic” matched the Buffalo Sabres against the Pittsburgh Penguins before a record-setting crowd of 71,217.
The Aurora Ice Association (AIA) has purchased the ice making equipment from the NHL Winter Classic and will create a tribute rink to this historic event in the center of the Village of East Aurora. All of Western New York will have the opportunity to skate, play, and share in this historic venue. |
