The Time Warner Cable Classic Rink
Owned and operated by Aurora Ice Association, Inc. (AIA),
a New York not for profit tax exempt charitable corporation. (See About AIA)
On January 1, 2008 history was made in Orchard Park, NY.
Ralph Wilson Stadium hosted the first ever outdoor NHL game in the United States.
The NHL "Winter Classic" game matched the Buffalo Sabres against the Pittsburgh Penguins before a record-setting crowd of 71,217.
The Winter Classic portable rink system was purchased later in 2008 and erected as a tribute rink to this historic event in the center of the Village of East Aurora. The Winter Classic rink is now operating under an open-sided pavilion roof in East Aurora.
